Speakers of Sustainable Fashion and SDGs: Different Contexts, Same Mission

  Patrick Duffy   Patrick Duffy is the founder of  Global Fashion Exchange  (GFX) a global platform and consultancy promoting sustainability in the fashion industry through inspiring forums, educational content and cultural events for consumers and brands  Patrick powers creative teams in New York, Los Angeles, Dubai and London and has produced events, created marketing campaigns around the world for some of the world’s most recognized brands. In addition to his work with GFX, Patrick also manages global partnerships for  Common Objective  (CO), an intelligent business network for the fashion industry based in the United Kingdom.

  Steven Cutting   Steven Cutting is a global leader in the fashion industry as well as an educator at  Fashion Institute of Technology  and  Kingsborough Community College . He started his fashion career in Italy working for  Krizia  and  Anna Scipioni , then leading the team at Philippe Monet. In the US, he founded his design firm consulting for brands,  Kenneth Cole ,  Reebok , Collezione, and Jim & Marylou to name a few. Since then he has led design teams at  Perry Ellis America , Beyoncé’s Dereon/  House of Dereon ,  Larry Levine ,  Komocean Swim , and  TRC by Cutting . He received his B.F.A. in Fashion design, from Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and his M.A. from  Empire State College , expected Fall 2018.

In the handcraft and artisan sectors, John serves on the Board of Creative Learning, which has capacity building programs in the artisan sector through programs under  Aid to Artisans (ATA) . John advises and serves on the board of directors for many organizations and NGOs including  Creative Learning , the Community Foundation for St. Vincent,  aboutmicrofinance.com , and  Rain Barrel Communications .   Nikita Varma   Nikita Varma (MBA, fashion designer) is a spokesperson of  Hecho por Nosotros  at the UN advocating for sustainable fashion at the highest international forums. Nikita aspire to contribute to the environmental and social needs of the present economy, as a fashion industry and finance professional, by integrating sustainability with the products and processes of the Fashion Industry and beyond. Prior to career in fashion, Nikita worked in the corporate world and worked for a bank in India in managerial position.

She has a Master’s degree in Climate and Society from the Earth Institute at  Columbia University  and was recently featured in  Apparel Magazine ’s Top Elite Under 30.

She has 19 years of experience in Trade and Transport Facilitation within UNECE. She currently manages a group of some 300 experts working on Trade Facilitation projects to produce Trade Facilitation Recommendations and electronic business standards, covering both commercial and government business processes that can foster growth in international trade and related services. This section has provided vast contributions to the fields of traceability for value chains in the agri-food and fisheries sectors and is currently working towards achieving the same results within textile and leather value chains.
