Special Film Screening & Holiday Pop-Up Shop, featuring Local Artisans & Social Entrepreneurs
Please join the ZONTA Club of New York, in partnership with MOSAIC & ABN for a special screening of the award-winning documentary film, THREADS, November 17, 2016 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
THREADS is an intimate portrait of 84-year old Bengali artist, Surayia Rahman, who transforms the quilt-work tradition of Kantha to create possibilities for a better life for her family and hundreds of destitute mothers in Bangladesh. Over three decades, as their art becomes prized possessions of connoisseurs around the world, Surayia Rahman and the artisans overcome their hardships with needle and thread, stitch by stitch. THREADS takes us on a journey into the heart of an artist and illuminates an unconventional path to dignity and independence.
Following the screening, Llenay Ferretti, founder of Bhavana World Project will moderate a thought-provoking discussion with Film Director & Producer, Cathy Stevulak.
Please join us for a cocktail reception to network with local artisans and entrepreneurs, who have benefitted from empowering women. Learn more about how these women turned their passion and dreams into thriving businesses, while browsing their product lines.
Participating organizations include Kantha Threads, NUS Beauty, Same Sky, Florish, and Woven.
