Here: Maasai Land: Film Screening and Panel Discussion

  • The Wythe Hotel 80 Wythe Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11249 United States (map)

A short documentary directed by Samanthe André about Lucy Ito of the Maasai Sister Rescue Center in Kajiado, Kenya. Ito’s group works to not only rescue girls from FGM and forced early marriage, but to educate and support them, with the goal of returning them to their communities as leaders of a new generation without FGM.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion about current efforts to end FGM and support survivors moderated by:
Deesha Dyer
(Former White House Social Secretary, executive director of beGirl.World)

Joining Mukhopadhyay will be:
Adama Lee Bah
(FGM survivor and United Nations Youth Representative, currently enrolled at F.I.T.)

Dr. Jaana Rehnström
(Executive Director of the Kota Alliance, which works on a grassroots level to end FGM in the New York Area)

The United Nations will also be providing a policy expert.

We’ll be discussing current efforts to end FGM in Kenya and elsewhere, as well as FGM in the New York area, where we have a large population of survivor as well as many children who are at risk for FGM.
