Art & Storytelling Workshop: Painted & Embroidered Memories
Learn hand-sewing, embroidery, and Kalamkari techniques and put them to use creating a Story Cloth. A textile canvas that tells your story!
In this hands-on workshop, textile artist and educator Nikita Shah will guide you through creating a story cloth — a small, personal piece that draws on family, heritage, and story.
What to expect:
You'll learn basic hand-sewing, embroidery, and Kalamkari, an ancient Indian textile art using natural dyes and hand-drawn imagery. Using a 4” x 6” piece of cotton fabric as a canvas, each participant will create a unique memory cloth that reflects their story and sense of identity.
Materials will be provided. But please bring fabric scraps and trims that hold personal meaning or evoke memories of family, culture, and connection. These will be incorporated into your story cloth!
