Kota Day 2020 - Theory of Change: Workshop for Nonprofits

We are hosting our next #KotaDay in February and we would love to see you there!

Workshop by Jude Kallick and Julie Poncelet on Theory of Change for nonprofits.

Have a great vision for your organization and unsure how to map out getting there? You hear positive feedback about your work, but are uncertain how to demonstrate success to your funders? Want to improve organizational learning and impacts?

In this one day workshop, you'll learn the nuts and bolts of Theory of Change and its varied uses: clarify strategies, support evaluations, help you learn. Jude and Julie, two experienced external evaluators and strategic learning consultants, will help you develop a Theory of Change for your organization or its program(s). They will use dynamic activities to help you generate the information necessary to describe the individual components of a purpose-driven Theory of Change: strategies, outcomes, impacts, and assumptions. You will also receive a list of resources to help deepen your understanding of Theory of Change and its uses. Best of all, you'll have fun with your colleagues and other purpose-driven animators!

Who will attend?

Anyone interested in learning more about what Theory of Change (TOC) or Theory of Action (TOA) are and how they can be useful to social impact to support planning, decision-making, evaluation, and organizational development.

What will be covered?

- Introduction to TOC and TOA - what they are, how they can be used, and how they are developed.

- Participatory activity to learn more concretely the basic components of the TOC and TOA.

Timing:

- 1 day (including coffee and lunch breaks)

- 1 hour follow up video call within three weeks of the workshop to answer questions about what and how to apply what was covered in the workshop

What will you take with you?

- Workbook outlining the process for developing a Theory of Change with explanation of exercises conducted during the workshop.

- Draft Theory of Change for your organization

Participation: Min. 3 organizations, Max. 8 organizations; 2-4 people per organization

We will do some group work mixing participants from different organizations. However, a significant component will be for people from the same organization to work together on exercises that will help them develop or refine their organization’s Theory of Change.
